{"id":233643,"date":"2018-10-09T00:00:00","date_gmt":"2018-10-08T22:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.cls.fr\/cls-major-player-climate\/"},"modified":"2025-01-28T16:24:28","modified_gmt":"2025-01-28T15:24:28","slug":"cls-major-player-climate","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.cls.fr\/en\/cls-major-player-climate\/","title":{"rendered":"CLS, a major player for the climate"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Monday, October 8 was published the report of the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ipcc.ch\/home_languages_main.shtml\">IPCC (Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change)<\/a> which confirms the need to achieve &#8220;carbon neutrality&#8221; by 2025 to limit the average rise in temperatures to 1,5\u00b0C.<\/p>\n<p>In this report, the IPCC warns about the world&#8217;s evolution within an increase of 1.5\u00b0C to 2\u00b0C with for example a multiplication of heat waves across different regions, the increase of the<strong> sea level<\/strong> from 26 to 77 cm in the case of + 1.5\u00b0C and another 10 cm at + 2\u00b0C &#8230; The impact of this warming will also influence species with an increasingly important ecosystem change depending on the severity of the hypotheses. A fall in productivity in rice, wheat or maize production with the risk of lack of water are also anticipated &#8230;<\/p>\n<p>At CLS, our experts work to measure these different phenomena and provide the data to scientists. More than 90 oceanographers and our expertise in <strong>satellite altimetry<\/strong> allow us to observe with certainty the least movement of our seas and oceans and to provide a curve of the evolution of the mean sea level (average increase of 3.3mm \/ year) .
