{"id":233581,"date":"2017-03-03T00:00:00","date_gmt":"2017-03-02T23:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.cls.fr\/cls-is-monitoring-oceans\/"},"modified":"2024-11-06T11:18:47","modified_gmt":"2024-11-06T10:18:47","slug":"cls-is-monitoring-oceans","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.cls.fr\/en\/cls-is-monitoring-oceans\/","title":{"rendered":"CLS keep an eye on the oceans"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>With nearly 20 years of expertise, CLS uses data from several satellites including sentinels to develop new solutions to protect the planet, its environment, its biodiversity and its inhabitants.<\/p>\n<p><strong><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-1592 alignright\" src=\"https:\/\/www.cls.fr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/05\/r879_9_sentinel-1_thumbnail.jpg\" width=\"250\" height=\"188\" \/><\/strong><\/p>\n<h2>Sentinel 1: Radar images to detect pollution at sea<\/h2>\n<p>In the context\u00a0of European projects or on behalf of its cusers, CLS monitors the maritime areas in order to detect oil slicks (hydrocarbons &#8211; sinking, degassing, deballasting, etc.), illegal fishing boats and provide support to Administrations in the case\u00a0of natural disasters.<\/p>\n<p>CLS regularly operates the acquisition of radar sentinel-1 images on behalf of the European Maritime Safety Agency, EMSA.<br \/>\nThanks to the work of the radar analysts and to the vigisat station and algorithmic models developed within its radar division and drones, CLS manage\u00a0to detect the spills of hydrocarbons and to determine the drift trajectories of Oil slicks in ordre to identify polluters and the possible source of pollution and thus provide detection reports.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cls.fr\/en\/cleanseanet-the-european-maritime-safety-agency-has-chosen-to-renew-its-confidence-in-cls\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-3407 alignright\" src=\"https:\/\/www.cls.fr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/05\/vigisat-pollution-sea-2.jpg\" alt=\"vigisat pollution sea\" width=\"150\" height=\"197\" \/>CLEANSEANET, the European service to fight pollution at sea<\/a><\/p>\n<p>CLS, with its subsidiary TRE ALTAMIRA, is using hundreds of satellite images from the satellite constellations of the European Space Agency, including Sentinel 1, to study the impact of infrastructure development of the Grand Paris Express. Unprecedented satellite monitoring, covering 35 years, including historical studies.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cls.fr\/wp-content\/uploads\/presse\/r871_9_grand-paris-and-satellites-en.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Work on the Grand Paris Express under close surveillance by satellite<\/a><\/p>\n<p><strong><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-1663 alignleft\" src=\"https:\/\/www.cls.fr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/05\/r1031_9_sentinel_3-esa_thumbnail.jpg\" width=\"250\" height=\"188\" \/><\/strong><\/p>\n<h2>Sentinel 3: the level of oceans, lakes and rivers on the European platform Global Land<\/h2>\n<p>In the Sentinel-3 adventure, CLS was missioned by ESA as responsible for the processing chains and mission performance center S-3 for the topography and also processing center and archiving of the topography datum for surfaces Continental countries.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright wp-image-1515\" src=\"https:\/\/www.cls.fr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/05\/r573_9_cls-centre-controle.jpg\" width=\"250\" height=\"132\" \/>CLS has also been given the responsibility of delivering altimetry and oceanographic data to the community portal of the<strong><a href=\"https:\/\/marine.copernicus.eu\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"> Copernicus Marine Environment Monitoring Service,<\/a><\/strong> entrusted by <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.mercator-ocean.fr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/05\/Dossier-de-presse-CMEMS_final.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">MERCATOR OCEAN<\/a><\/strong>. As part of the Copernicus Global Land Service, CLS was commissioned by the Joint Research Center (JRC) to deliver altimetry data on continental hydrological surveys.<br \/>\nOn behalf of CNES, CLS also carries out research and development activities. Finally, on behalf of Eumetsat and CNES, CLS and its partners produce altimetric products at higher levels. CLS has developed unique treatment chains to deliver\u00a0the levels of oceans, lakes and rivers to scientists, climatologists, meteorologists, oceanographers, biologists, hydrologists.
