We\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"line-height: 1em;\">can also measure the effects of global\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"line-height: 1em;\">warming, the acidification of oceans and\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"line-height: 1em;\">pollution in specific areas of the world.<\/span><\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: justify;\"><\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: justify;\"><\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: justify;\">PROOCEANO, the CLS group\u2019s Brazilian\u00a0<span style=\"line-height: 1em;\">underwater drones\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"line-height: 1em;\">can stay at sea for months to perform\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"line-height: 1em;\">numerous dives for missions that were\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"line-height: 1em;\">impossible before. We cooperate with\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"line-height: 1em;\">international research bodies using these\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"line-height: 1em;\">drones, which measure data that are then\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"line-height: 1em;\">collected by satellites. These state-of-the-art\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"line-height: 1em;\">instruments provide valuable information\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"line-height: 1em;\">on the marine environment, including wave\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"line-height: 1em;\">height, wind speed, current intensity, ocean\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"line-height: 1em;\">surface and depth temperatures. All these\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"line-height: 1em;\">data can be fed into climate models.<\/span><\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: justify;\"><\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong><span style=\"line-height: 1em;\">UAVs FOR ATMOSPHERIC\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"line-height: 1em;\">SCIENCE<\/span><\/strong><\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: justify;\"><\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"line-height: 1em;\">There are already regulations to limit\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"line-height: 1em;\">greenhouse gases at sea. CLS is developing\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"line-height: 1em;\">innovative solutions to support authorities\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"line-height: 1em;\">wanting to ensure compliance with\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"line-height: 1em;\">these regulations. In order to reduce\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"line-height: 1em;\">pollutants harmful to the climate and\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"line-height: 1em;\">health in the North Sea, the Baltic Sea\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"line-height: 1em;\">and off the US coasts (in these cases\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"line-height: 1em;\">mostly nitrogen oxide and sulphur oxide),\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"line-height: 1em;\">the International Maritime Organization\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"line-height: 1em;\">(IMO) set standards dictating that from\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"line-height: 1em;\">1 January 2015, the maximum limit of\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"line-height: 1em;\">sulphur contained in authorized marine\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"line-height: 1em;\">fuel is to be divided by ten. <\/span><\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: justify;\"><\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"line-height: 1em;\">How can\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"line-height: 1em;\">we check that shipping complies with\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"line-height: 1em;\">these regulations far from the shore?<\/span><\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"line-height: 1em;\">CLS <\/span><span style=\"line-height: 1em;\">offers a solution for\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"line-height: 1em;\">coastal applications. Satellite-linked\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"line-height: 1em;\">drones are able to check pollution\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"line-height: 1em;\">emanating from ships located by\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"line-height: 1em;\">satellite. The use of polluting fuel can\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"line-height: 1em;\">thus be detected remotely and in real\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"line-height: 1em;\">time, offering competent authorities the\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"line-height: 1em;\">means of enforcing the standards.
