Overview

Regional Ocean Modelling is an area of ocean modelling in constant evolution.

The increase of processing powers means that it is now feasible to run high resolution regional models. These models are fundamental to an improved understanding of the physic and the dynamics of the regional ocean circulation. Such an understanding allows for an improved representation of the environmental conditions and sensitivity of an ocean region.

CLS has developed a very close relationship with customers and partners from the maritime sector to serve their needs related to:

  • sustainable management of resources
  • environmental monitoring
  • Maritime safety.

Day to day, a precise and reliable knowledge of the physical (temperature, salinity, currents) biogeochemical (chlorophyll, plankton, nitrate) and ecological (fish stock, fish population) state of the oceanic environment is required. Drawing on 20 years of experience in spatial oceanography and data collection, CLS is now building a regional modelling expertise in two principal areas:
  • Physical modelling
  • Biological (biogeochemical, ecological) modelling

This initiative benefits from close collaborations with scientific and industrial partners. This makes CLS the ideal link between the world of industry and that of research.
