Zoom in The CLS_SHOM v. 98.2 Mean Sea Surface (m) , with a 1/16° grid. The dominant features are the large scale undulation of the geoid, but many tectonic features of the ocean floor are observed.
Zoom in Estimation error map of the Mean Sea Surface, providing an a-posteriori evaluation of the MSS accuracy (cm). This figure shows the limit of T/P data (66°N and 66°S), and the poor accuracy in the polar areas where ERS-1 data only are available.
Zoom in Short wavelengths of the Mean Sea Surface. The MSS has been high-pass filtered (2D Wiener filter with a 2000 km cutoff wavelength), revealing in this picture the signature of the ridge, the seamounts and many tectonic features in the Pacific ocean.

The oceanic mean dynamic topography : a byproduct of the MSS CLS_SHOM. v. 98.2 obtained by subtracting the EGM96 geoid to the MSS, then filtering the wavelengths shorter than 10 degrees. This map represents the mean ocean state during the year 93-94-95. The general shape of the mean circulation can be recognised : the gyre and their intensified western boundary currents are present. However, geoid undulation errors are still contaminating this estimation of the oceanic "permanent" dynamic topography.
