    Altimetry

The CLS global altimeter data product module developed as part of the DUACS project will be used for MFSPP. Some steps are specific to MFSPP.

Altimeter products distributed every thursday will be
    (T0 corresponds to Wednesday) :

    • Filtered, sub-sampled and corrected T/P and ERS-2 along-track data (one file per satellite) from T0-22days to T0-2 days.
      Available as numerical files.
    • One combined (T/P+ERS-2) map at the model resolution (1/8°x1/8°) from T0-7 days, i.e. Wednesday from the previous week.
Available as an image with or without javascript and numerical file.

    SST

AVHRR SST for the Mediterranean sea wil be operationally produced and validated with in-situ measurements by CMS and ENEA.

    SST products will be :

    • Every week, a weekly mean will be calculated using data from the previous week. SST will be interpolated in to all model grid points.
Available as images with or whithout java script and numerical files.
    • High resolution data will be distributed during the TOP. Those will be composite images on a regular latitude/longitude grid. Three areas will be defined :
          - western Mediterranean Sea (resolution fo about 2 km, origin CMS)
          - Eastern Mediterranean Sea (resolution fo about 2 km, origin ENEA)
          - Adriatic Sea (resolution fo about 1 km, origin ENEA)
Available as GIF images and HDF files.

    Ocean color

ACRI is data coordinator for Ocean Color, and LPCM is responsible of ocean color data analysis. Products won't be distributed in real time but with a delay of about 2 to 3 weeks. There will be :
    • A weekly mean calculated every week from Seawifs data.
Available as images with or whithout java script and numerical files.
    • High resolution Seawifs Ocean Color data (Chlorophyll concentration), available during the TOP, same areas and format as for high resolution SST data.
    • Chlorophyll products (concentration in mg.m-3) reflect the quantity of phytoplankton near the water surface. They are derived directly from the exploitation of ocean colour imagery. Phytoplankton abundance is influenced by the temperature and quality of water, available nutrients, ocean dynamics, illumination.
    • Primary production reflects the ability of phytoplankton to store carbon. It is estimated by models which use both remote sensing data (chlorophyll products) and external information.
