Year 1 : October 1996 - September 1997 (done):

  • Develop and test the methodology for extracting and mapping Sea Level Anomaly from multi-satellite data sets in the CANIGO area.

  • Process a 4-year data set of  T/P altimetric measurements (October 1992 to October 1996) to provide along-track Sea Level Anomalies. Then calculate Maps of Sea Level Anomalies (MSLA) every 10 days.

Year 2 : October 1997 - March 1998 (done):

  • Process the  ERS-1 and  ERS-2  35-day-repeat orbit altimetric data from October 1992 to April 1996. Data are adjusted onto  T/P.

  • Calculate the combined MSLA of  ERS-1/2 and  T/P every 10 days, for the period October 1992 - December 1993 and April 1995 - April 1996.

  • Description of variations of the surface circulation in the CANIGO region based on the 4-year T/P data set.

  • Implementation of the quasi-geostrophic (QG) model and assimilation scheme in the CANIGO area.

Year 2 : April 1998 - September 1998 (done):

  • Provide a 5-year data set of  T/P (Sea Level Anomalies files and maps) for the period October 1992 - October 1997. Combined MSLA of  ERS-1/2 and  T/P for the period October 1992 - December 1993 and April 1995 - October 1997.

  • Description of the circulation variations in the CANIGO region based on the 4-year data set ( T/P and  ERS-1/2). Comparison with  T/P results.

  • First results of the assimilation experiments of  T/P and  ERS-1/2 into the QG model.

Year 3 : October 1998 - March 1999 (done):

  • Description of variations of the surface circulation in the CANIGO region based on the 5-year data set (T/P only).

  • Assimilated fields for the period 1992-1994.

Year 3 : April 1999 - September 1999:
