Palette Map SLA

Along-track Sea Level Anomaly

    TOPEX/POSEIDON :

      5 years (October 1992 - October 1997)
Corresponding to T/P cycle 2 to cycle 189.

SLA are relative to a 4-year mean profile. This mean profile is calculated using repeat cycles 11 (January 1993) to 158 (January 1997).

    ERS-1 and ERS-2 :

    • One year (October 1992 - December 1993)
Corresponding to cycles 6 to 18 of  ERS-1 phase C
    • One year (April 1995 - April 1996)

    • Corresponding to cycles 1 to 13 of  ERS-1 phase G
    • 18 months (May 1996 - October 97)

    • Corresponding to cycles 11 to 26 of  ERS-2

SLA are relative to a mean profile based on the 1992-1997 period. This mean profile is calculated using phase C ERS-1 data (cycles 6 to 18, i.e. October 1992 to December 1993), phase G ERS-1 data (cycles 1 to 13, i.e. March 1995 to June 1996), and ERS-2 data (cycles 12 to 18, i.e. June 1996 to January 1997). The ocean variability is removed to the altimetric surface height before calculating the mean profile, in order to minimize the averaging effects of an irregular temporal data sampling. In particular, this oceanic variability reduction reduces the aliasing of the seasonal cycle

SLA files are accessible via ftp with anonymous access. A complete description of the SLA computation and the SLA binary files is given with the AVISO Handbook.

Sea Level Anomaly MAPS

    TOPEX/POSEIDON : More than 5 years (October 1992 - March 1998)

      One map every 10 days with a resolution of 0.2° x 0.2°.

    TOPEX/POSEIDON AND ERS-1/2 COMBINED :

    • One year (October 1992 - December 1993)

    • 3 years (March 1995 - March 1998)

    • The combined maps are calculated at the same date than the T/P maps, with the same spatial resolution.

Sea Level Anomaly MAPS (ASCII files) are accessible via ftp with anonymous access.
