AGORA is an Environment and Climate EC project (ENV4-CT9560113) which deals with the assimilation of altimetric and in-situ data into global ocean models. The project started in February 1996 for a two year duration.
AVISO Space altimetry has become the "de facto" technique for describing and understanding the ocean circulation and its impact on the climate. The TOPEX/POSEIDON mission has been a driving force in its development, and has given the AVISO/Altimetry centre a « raison d'être », to serve, and continually grow, as a flexible, interactive tool for assessing and managing altimeter data and interfacing with users. CANIGO (Canary Islands Azores Gibraltar Observations) is the North East Atlantic MAST III regional sea project of the European Union (Contract MAS3-CT960060), for investigating and understanding the marine system in the Azores-Canary-Gibraltar region and its links with the Mediterranean Sea, through comprehensive interdisciplinary basin scale studies. DUACS (Developping Use of Altimetry for Climate Studies) is a European Union ’ Environment and Climate project (ENV4-CT96-0357) which aims to develop new applications of altimetry in the field of climate monitoring and forecasting. GANES (Global AssimilatioN applied to modelling of European Shelf seas) is a EU-CEO project. CLS will provide the partners with Sea Surface Temperature (SST) maps and Sea Level Anomaly (SLA) maps ready for use in models. MATER (Mass Transfer and Ecosystem Response) is the Mediterranean Sea MAST III Regional Sea Project (contract MAS3-CT96-0051). CLS with the collaboration of LEGOS/UMR5566/ is in charge of the processing and analysis of altimetric data for MATER. CLS contribution to MFSPP (Mediterranean Forecasting System Pilot Project) aims to set up and test a near real time acquisition and processing system of remote sensing data for the Mediterranean sea. MSS ojectives are to estimate a new mean sea surface, dedicated to ocean studies, focusing on the accuracy of the mean sea height along the satellite ground tracks and the homogeneity of the surface. TOPEX/POSEIDON (T/P), GEOSAT, and ERS-1 improved altimetric dataset are used to estimate this mean sea surface. |
