SeAGeRH, Service d'Aide à la Gestion des Ressources Halieutiques
Service to support fish resource management

Duration: From November 2001 to June 2004: 30 months
Contact:

CLS and the French Development Research Institute (IRD) have combined their experience and expertise in the SeAGeRH project to offer a comprehensive satellite service providing oceanographic products tailored to the fishing market and agencies monitoring fish stocks.
SeAGeRH is part of the "Terre et Espace" network supported by the French Ministry of Research to develop new products derived from satellite data by combining industrial and scientific expertise.

CLS tasks:

CLS and IRD jointly offer a comprehensive range of products and services, including radar, infrared and visible products. The CLS offer is based on the achievements of CATSAT, providing basic satellite products such as temperature, altimetry and ocean color. Adding new products (weather, products obtained by combining satellite observations, in situ observations and numerical models, named "model products" and vorticity) and new services will allow easy-to-use data to be transmitted to fishing vessels in real time and displayed using dedicated onboard software. Agencies monitoring fish stocks will be able to appreciate the value added by environmental information combined with near real-time fishing data.

CLS is responsible for:
  • Developing the interface between IRD's intertropical virtual antenna (IVA) system and CLS's CATSAT service,
  • Developing new products: cloudless low-resolution temperature products and "model products"
  • Investigating SAR (Synthetic Aperture Radar) data for fishing and fish stock monitoring,
  • Tailoring the transmission and display systems to these new products,
  • Developing data compression/decompression software,
  • Training the skippers of fishing vessels using data and CATSAT software.

Users:

Users are fishermen - purse seiners and long liners - and agencies monitoring fish stocks.
