The ROSES project is part of the European program GMES - Global Monitoring for Environment and Security.
The aim is to coordinate space programs dedicated to environmental studies and surveys in order to control and reduce climatic changes and earth disasters.
The ROSES project will be set up first for two services: oil spill and algae Bloom monitoring, by delivering data in near real time.
CLS tasks:
CLS is in charge of:
- Definition and coordination of setting up all services: this includes validation of all technical points.
- Services deployment: existing services will be improved and made operational for oil spill and algae bloom monitoring. The ROSES portfolio services will be built-up in the same way as for what exists for CATSAT. A service-portfolio will be proposed with a basic service, which will be customised to user needs, by adding prediction from ocean numerical models. Four levels of service of increasing complexity have been defined :
- Level A: updated basic service, (for global areas in near real time)
- Level B: service fitted to users, ( for local areas)
- Level C: addition of numerical ocean models
- Level D: expertise and support for decision in case of a crisis
- Definition and set up of an outreach strategy plan. Outreach actvities cover a web site implementation, a leaflet creation and the realisation of all required communication tools.
Users:
There are several potential users:
- National and international environment administrations non governemental agencies, coastal protection agencies,
- Meteorological services local administration for coastal applications
- Insurance companies or banks
- Fisheries agencies, research organisation, climate research organisation
