  Oil prospection

"Throughout an oil prospection project, a reference geodetic network is essential for marking out concession boundaries and interpreting results," says Fran&#ccedil;ois Boucquaert." DORIS allows us to tie a prospection site to the ITRF international reference system. Setting up a location station takes just a few minutes, and CLS in Toulouse sends us coordinates withn 48 hours. We can then use these as a starting point to fill out the geodetic network by adding points with differential GPS."

  Antenna pointing

The European Space Agency used DORIS to tie the antenna at an Ariane telemetry receiving station to the ITRF world reference system. The antenna is on an isolated site on Ascension Island some 2000 kilometers off the coast of Africa.

  Mapping aids

Data acquired by a DORIS location station during two consecutive passes of the SPOT satellites, i.e., after one and half hour, provides 3D location accuracy better than one meter. IGN, the French mapping and survey agency, tested DORIS during production of 1:200000 scale satellite imagemaps of French Guiana. DORIS supplied the control points for georeferencing of ERS radar imagery along the Maroni and Oyapok rivers.
