  • The GANES project consists of 2 groups of partners. The Data Providers (DP) consist of 4 teams involved in assimilating satellite and in situ data sets into open ocean circulation models. Results from an earlier project involving these partners can be found in AGORA. The Data Customers (DC) also consist of 4 teams involved in different aspects of coastal and shelf-edge modelling and prediction around Europe. The project is coordinated from the Meteorology department at Edinburgh University.

CLS Space Oceanography Division is responsible for the preparation of improved Earth Observations (EO) to be assimilated by the DP Group. This group has been involved in processing satellite data (especially radar altimeter) and in conducting related oceanographic studies for many years. The EO will consist in Sea Surface Temperature (SST) and Sea Level Anomalies (SLA) global maps every 10 days for the period 1992-1997 with ¼ of a degree horizontal resolution. The archived data sets will be available over the web to European coastal modeling groups and also to a wider community for use in other areas of the world.
